Getting Out of a Rut

October 23, 2013

I’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut the last couple of weeks and have been struggling in my efforts to pull myself out of it. What absolutely did not help my cause was the death of my beloved camera. Yes, my camera died, in a drowning incident. I tried everything to revive it. Submerged it in a bag of rice for 24 hours, Google told me this would help. It didn’t. I then gave it a gentle blow-dry, but still it remained unresponsive. I called Canon begging them for advice but hoping for a miracle. They told me to pack it up and ship it to their lab for an evaluation. A week later the camera was returned with a letter officially telling me that my camera was dead. Ouch!

The news hurt. That camera and I have been inseparable for the past 4 years. It had become an extension of my arm, an extra limb, a way for me to capture and share the way I see the world. But now, alas, our time together was over. It was time for me to pick myself and move on. Today my new camera arrived and having not shot anything in almost 2 weeks, I was super excited to charge it up and take it out for a test drive. No points for guessing who my little test drive model was.

I used this unfortunate incident to upgrade my camera from the Canon 5D Mark ii, to the Canon 5D Mark iii and so far I love it. There are quite a few more features to figure out, but I’m excited to spend the next few days getting to grips with all of it new capabilities.

Welcome back, we missed you. Did you lose any photos when the old camera went caput?
