Right Now: Eat, Mad, Read

March 29, 2012

What I’m Eating Right Now: Brussel sprouts. I know, most of you out there are scrunching up your noses in disgust and judgement, you probably even had an instant gag reflex, but wait, it gets worse. I’m also into roasted parsnips and carrots. Now, hands up who wants to hang out with me this weekend??

What I’m Mad At Right Now: Gas/Petrol prices. Seriously, what the hell is going on here? Who do I need to direct my anger towards, cos I’m pissed? I spend a lot of time in my car and for the past 2 days I’ve played a risky game of driving around on almost empty out of absolute protest of these barbaric prices. Filling up stirs my emotions in an aggressive way and I mumble and swear at the pump like a bipolar schizophrenic as the dollar gauge spins like a Las Vegas fruit machine, minus the cash payout, grrrrrrr.

What I’m Reading Right Now: Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins, the third and final book of The Hunger Games trilogy. I’ve no idea what I’m gonna do once I’m done. I’m not ready to move on to another book yet. Its too soon. I’ll need time to mourn the loss and breakup. Must read slow in an effort to avoid nasty breakup conversation.

On a completely unrelated topic (see above reference to bipolar schizophrenia) I want to thank my bestie Derval, for hooking a fellow bestie up with some old school Saucony kicks before she left town last week. Fintan and I love them.

Hello 7 Months!

March 24, 2012

Baby and I have hit the 7 month mark. I can’t believe we’ve put in a solid 28 weeks already. Time just seems to be flying past. But I have a sneaky feeling these final couple of months are about to feel like the longest. Things are definitely starting to feel big and heavy and life’s daily tasks are beginning to happen at a much steadier and less elegant pace, and rib pain has become my constant daily companion. If I didn’t know better I’d swear this baby was using my rib cage as its own personal chin-up bar. Luckily, there are still 2 months to go and based on what other women are telling me, there’s plenty more pain, discomfort, swelling and suffering where that came from. Can’t wait. YAY! for the final trimester.

Baby and I at our 7 month milestone.

A Visitor From Home

March 21, 2012

Tomorrow my best friend from Ireland is coming to visit and I’m super excited. Derval and I have been besties for longer than I care to remember. During my years on the Irish track team, we were serial roommates. We traveled to many countries, competed at many European and World Championships as well as Olympic Games. We’ve shared in all the drama and emotion that goes along with life as a professional athlete, some amazing highs and some not so amazing lows. We’ve also shared plenty of clothes, shoes, accessories, food, money and many a night out drowning our sorrows or celebrating our victories in Irish pubs all over the world. All just part of life on the global road. I however, have long since retired from competitive track, but Derval still continues to smash records and rack in the medals for Ireland and is currently preparing for the London Olympics in July of this year. This week however she is taking a much needed break from the intensity of training and flying to Miami to visit her boyfriend who is also on the Irish Olympic team for sailing and has been training in Florida for the past 3 weeks. But there was no way she could fly all the way to the US and not stop over in Atlanta to visit. Sadly its only for a day, but I’m still super excited and I’ve planned lots girlie stuff for us to do in the 24 hours she’ll be here and one of those things will be harassing her to forget about the boyfriend and stay longer with me :) which is completely selfish I know, but hey, I’m an only girl sandwiched between 1 older and 1 younger brother, what can I say, I’m use to getting things my way.

Me, Derval and her precious little doggy, Berlino, taken last summer in Ireland at a shoot we put together to get some cutie photos of Derval and her doggy. You can check out more photos from the shoot HERE.

Baby Meets The Boss

March 19, 2012

For those of you who know my husband, then you know he’s a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. For those of you who don’t know my husband, then let me tell you, he’s a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. So huge that this past weekend when The Boss kicked off his 2012 tour here in Atlanta, there was no way The Husband was not taking his son to his first Springsteen concert. The fact that said son remains as yet unborn, was just a teeny technicality. It did mean however that my attendance was mandatory and while I really only know The Bosses most popular songs, I have to admit he puts on an amazing show and I enjoyed every second of it. Especially his new songs which are aggressively Irish and incorporate the accordion and fiddle. It made me want to get my Riverdance on and go pick a fight. What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day??!

Happy St. Patricks Day

March 17, 2012

Dexter and Crookie wish everyone a HaPpY St. PaTrIcKs Day from the bottom of their little Irish hearts. Fintan was not as comfortable rocking the green, he wrestled with his shamrock headband, then escaped into a tree to avoid having his photo taken. But not to be deterred, I will definitely try again later. Look out Fintan.
